rediscovered obsession (part 5/5): being a team player

being a team player
Anyone who knows me in the slightest will know soon enough that of all the things I do for sheer enjoyment, watching sports on tv is not one of them. I wouldn’t say it bores me, but it doesn’t really hold my attention without significant effort on my part, unless I’m physically at a televised game. I’ve just never been a fan of watching sweaty dudes on a field or court, battle for glory with a possible chance of injury or worse, with a 3 minute commercial break in between every other play.

The irony is that I’m a multi-sport athlete and I really enjoy learning to play whatever sport I try, as well as I can. This is something that’s always given me a feeling of satisfaction, no matter the outcome. There’s something special about accomplishing something as part of a team. I really do love playing team sports! From karate and soccer to flag football and track, I’ve been in training of some sort for a majority of my formative years.

These days I’ve been busy physically training to conquer a distance race. I’m registered for my very first 10K so I can check that one off of my runners to-do list after this weekend. My goal is to finish in under an hour even though it’s got a few unfamiliar hills.

Here’s the 10k course map. I’m not sure why it says 6.34 miles since a 10k is supposed to be 6.2 miles.

I’m running the Firecracker10k with a group of my tri teammates over in LA’s Chinatown, and I can’t wait! Here’s more information about the weekend’s events.

This is the final part of a five part series. If you liked it, leave a comment and/or click the subscribe button on the right and I’ll do more of these throughout the year. Thank you!
